For eons prophesies of disasters leading to the end of the world failed to come to fruition. That changed when an enormous asteroid struck the planet causing numerous natural disasters, which left much of civilization in utter ruins. The few remaining survivors would come to know this time as "The Big Apocalyptic Event."
