Autorům této reprezentativní publikace (anglické vydání) šlo především o kompletní interpretaci složité výzdoby hradu Karlštejna, vybudovaného jako architektonická pokladnice korunovačních klenotů Karla IV, v kontextu politických i duchovních ideí tehdejší Evropy. Největší pozornost je soustředěna na Mistra Theodorika, dvorního malíře Karla IV. Těmito tématy se zabývá hned několik odborných statí. Jádrem celé monografie je katalogová část, v níž je reprodukována kompletní malířská výzdoba kaple sv. Kříže, tvořená 129 deskovými obrazy Mistra Theodorika, triptychem Tommasa de Modena, nástěnnými malbami a kresbami na omítce. Kniha dále obsahuje edice archivních pramenů a sekundární literatury. V závěru jsou zařazeny restaurátorské analýzy.EnglishThe authors of this representative publication were concerned mainly about the complete interpretation of the complex decoration of Karlstejn castle, that was built as a treasury for the crown jewels of Charles IV in context of political and spiritual ideals of the then Europe. Most of their attention is paid to Magister Theodoricus, the court painter of Charles IV. Several expert treatises deal with thwese topics. The nub of the monography is created by the catalogue part where reproducted the complete pictorial decoration of the Holy Cross Chapel, consisting of 129 tabular paintings by Magister Theodoricus, and triptych by Tommaso de Modena, mural paintings on plaster. the book also contains edition of the archive sources and of secondary literature. The book is closed by conservator´s analyses.DeutschDie Autoren dieser repräsentativen Publikation setzten sich vor allem das Ziel, die komplizierte Dekoration der Burg Karlštejn komplett zu interpretieren. Diese Burg wurde im politischen und kirchlichen Kontext Europas als eine Schatzkammer für die Krönungskleinodien erbaut. Die Aufmerksamkeit wird vor allem auf den Meister Theodoricus - den Hofmaler des Kaisers Karl IV. gerichtet. Ihm widmen sich mehrere Texte. Den Hauptteil der Monographie stellt der Katalog dar. Er umfaßt Reproduktionen der sämtlichen Dekoration der Kreuzkapelle, die aus 129 Tafelbildern von Meister Thedooricus, einem Triptych von Tommaso de Modena, Fresken und Wandzeichnungen besteht. Das Buch enthält auch Informationen über die Archivquellen und sekundäre Literatur und am Ende die restauratorischen Analysen.
