Book synopsis

This book offers a critical Marxist reading of one of the deepest contradictions of contemporary capitalism: the tension between the accelerating productive forces of knowledge and the relations of production that confine them within the logic of commodity and rent. Moving from a theoretical critique that reclaims Marx's concept of the conflict between the forces and relations of production, to a concrete analysis of how time itself becomes an instrument of exploitation and alienation in the platform and algorithmic economy, the book reveals how digital capitalism reproduces class and colonial domination in an entirely new form - no longer confined to the factory but embedded in data, and extending beyond the body to consciousness and personal time itself.

The author of this book, Sattar Jabbar Rahman, is no passing researcher in this field but the architect of a sustained intellectual project examining the question of domination in contemporary capitalism from multiple angles: from a theory of regional imperialism in which he distinguished between autonomous imperialism and imperialism by proxy, to a critique of the rentier state, to the political economy of knowledge and digitization that this book addresses. Founder of the European Centre for Middle East Studies.
