The Fifth American Air Force was formed as the Philippine Department Air Force in 1941, but was re-organised under its more famous name in Brisbane, Australia, in September 1942, following the Japanese conquest of the Philippines. This book tells the story of the 5th Air Force and all the different units engaged against the Japanese forces in defence of New Guinea, Australia and the South Pacific until June 1945.
