Book synopsis

This volume consists of up-to-date review articles on topics relevant to psychology and law, and will be of current interest to the field. Notably, the majority of these topics are currently attracting a great deal of research and public policy attention in the U.S. and elsewhere, as evidenced by programs at the American Psychology-Law Society and related conferences. Topics for the volume include:Miranda rights (Kelley et al.), plea bargaining (Henderson and Levett), restorative justice (Saulnier and Sivasubramaniam), victim impact statements (Myers et al.), pre-trial publicity (Ruva), bias in forensic interviewing (Neal), outcomes for juvenile offenders (Taylor et al.) and Fourth Amendment issues (Brank and Groscup). It also contains an extensive summary of the state of the field in terms of what law-psychology journals are publishing (Reed et al.). The series Advances in Psychology and Law , of which the present volume is part (Vol. 3), focuses on topics at the nexus of Psychology and Law. The series seeks to enhance understanding of the connections between these disciplines, present "state of the science" summaries for current researchers, and provide a starting point for scholars wanting to delve into a new topic of study by reading an up-to-date review article on that topic. The first two volumes of the series (published in 2016) have been well-received, and chapters from them are already being cited and used in classes.
