Künstlerische Produktion hat in Urbanisierungsprozessen schon immer eine bedeutende Rolle gespielt. In Art City Lab wird dies am Beispiel von Berlin veranschaulicht. Bot die Stadt nach dem Mauerfall Künstlerinnen und Künstlern noch vielfältige Möglichkeiten, sich leer stehende Räume bedarfsgerecht und kreativ anzueignen, so werden sie seit gut einem Jahrzehnt zunehmend aus ihren Wohnungen und Ateliers im innerstädtischen Bereich verdrängt.§Art City Lab untersucht und dokumentiert alternative architektonische und organisatorische Ansätze zur Schaffung von neuen, erschwinglichen Atelierräumen. Dazu werden eine Reihe von Fertigbausystemen sowie ihre Kombinierbarkeit und Anpassungsfähigkeit analysiert und die Ergebnisse in prototypischen Entwürfen illustriert.
