Book synopsis
International migration is a well studied phenomenon that has attracted the interest of scholars from across various academic disciplines. However, to date little is known about children's participation in processes of global migration. The present study attempts to fill this gap in the migration literature by providing detailed descriptive accounts on primary school aged children's experience with parental and peer migration. The central research questions that are addressed in this book focus on the ideas of migration and children's sociality that circulate in children s immediate surrounding; children s actual experience of parental and peer migration; and the transformations that family structures and relationships undergo upon migration. A broad descriptive approach and anthropological research methods are employed to access children's worlds at home and at school and to shed light on their experience of migration. This book is directed at educators, international migration agencies, educational departments, migration and childhood researchers, and anyone interested in children's experience of parental and peer migration.
