Excerpt from Catalogue of Stars Observed at the United States Naval Observatory: During the Years 1845 to 1871 The Declinations published in this Catalogue were observed with the Mural Circle, the Meridian Circle, and the Prime Vertical transit-instrument. Equal weight is given to the observations of the Mural Circle and Prime Vertical transit-instrument, and half weight to the observations of the Meridian Circle. It is not considered necessary to describe here the method of observing, as that has been done at length in the volume for 1846 and those of subsequent years.
