Book synopsis

"Caught Stealing" is a semi-autobiographical tale of greed, corruption and the pursuit of justice. Based on the real-life experiences and observations of the author (who enjoyed a long career in the major leagues), many of the incidents in the novel are based upon true events.

"Caught Stealing" reveals the way players suffered from the greed and mismanagement of crooked agents in an era where the players' union turned a blind eye to their corruption.

The tale concerns two high school baseball players from the same school with extraordinary talent who both enter the world of professional baseball. One has his life destroyed by a corrupt agent and the other one steps forward to help his friend's wife and seek retribution against the agent responsible.

Professional sports have always been plagued by unscrupulous people looking to bleed players dry. "Caught Stealing" offers a clear-eyed view of an era where players had little protection and very often were swindled out of millions.
