Book synopsis
The purpose of this paper is to explore how and what type of training will be required for Air Force chaplains as they minister in the 21st century. Presently, in-residence training is the norm for initial and advanced training for both chaplains and chaplain service support personnel. As training dollars decrease, can in-residence training continue? Will distance education be a viable option? In what type of environments will chaplains find themselves ministering--ongoing temporary duties, small expeditionary force, space operations? What ethical issues will arise from these environments requiring special training? How will the Air Force Chaplaincy meet the training requirements not provided in civilian institutions? This paper will use the "Joint Vision 2010" and "Global Engagement" documents to describe the possible future environments and then address the questions and thoughts above.
