Book synopsis

Step into a bright and beautiful world of colour with Ellie, a curious ginger kitten who loves to look, wonder and learn!

Ellie Learns Colours is an engaging early-learning picture book created especially for toddlers and preschoolers aged 1-5. Through vibrant paint splashes, gentle illustrations and familiar real-world examples, young children are introduced to red, orange, yellow, pink, green, purple, blue, turquoise, black, white, grey, beige, brown and the many beautiful colours of the rainbow.

Children will discover a red rose, yellow sunshine, pink paint, green grass, purple lavender, orange juice, blue ocean waves, grey clouds, a turquoise fish, the black night sky, a friendly white ghost, beige sand, brown chocolate and a colourful rainbow. Each clear picture association helps children recognise, name and remember colours while building early vocabulary, visual discrimination and observation skills.

Simple, predictable language makes this preschool colour book perfect for reading aloud, encouraging children to join in, repeat colour words and connect each colour with the world around them. The gentle watercolor and coloured-pencil illustrations provide a warm, calm and inviting learning experience.

The fun continues at the back of the book with:

• An engaging search-and-find colour activity that encourages children to spot and name colours in a busy art classroom
• A black-and-white colouring-in page featuring Ellie beneath a rainbow, surrounded by paint buckets and brushes
• Five playful activity ideas, including going on a colour hunt, mixing paint colours, sorting toys into colour groups, making a rainbow collage and finding objects that match a favourite colour

These additional activities support conversation, matching, sorting, creativity and fine-motor development while extending learning beyond the story.

Ideal for families, early-learning centres, preschools, classrooms and homeschool programs, Ellie Learns Colours is a joyful first book about colours that helps young children learn through reading, talking, searching and play.
