About the Author
Kirsti Svendsen was born on a tiny island, Tranøy, in the very north of Norway in 1943 while WWII was still going on.
After a tumultuous childhood as a daughter of an austere, Protestant minister, Svendsen went to school and became a registered nurse. She had planned to continue her education in Norway. However, complicated circumstances, (also described in her book) led her to leave Norway and move to America at 25, where she got married.
Fifteen years later, she found herself alone, doing the life-changing work of taking care of her six children, while also working as a psychiatric nurse, helping people struggling with addiction.
As soon as her children started school, her insatiable interest in human nature, the choices we make, and that which we call God, led the author back to school again in America, for a Master's Degree in Psychology, followed by a PhD in the humanities.
