Der polnische Anthropologe Bronislaw Malinowski lebte um 1920 mehrere Jahre als sogenannter teilnehmender Beobachter in der Gemeinschaft der Trobriander. Er veröffentlichte seine umfassenden Forschungsergebnisse 1929: 'The sexual life of savages'.§Darin beschrieb er eine matriarchalische Gesellschaft mit freier Entwicklung der Kinder und Jugendlichen im Übergang zum Patriarchat: die Trobriander. Man nannte sie Wilde, denn bis Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts blieben sie von westlicher Zivilisation unberührt. Ihr gesellschaftliches Leben entpuppt sich bei näherem Hinsehen als zivilisiert und lustvoll, während unsere Zivilisation barbarisch wild ist.
