Unter der Kapitalintensitätshypothese versteht man die Annahme bzw. das Postulat, die Produktion von Konsumgütern vollziehe sich vergleichsweise kapitalintensiver als die Produktion von Investitionsgütern. Im Rahmen des neoklassischen Zwei-Sektoren-Modells ist diese Hypothese bei der Ableitung von wachstums-, aussenhandels- und verteilungstheoretischen Aussagen von grosser Bedeutung. Die empirische Analyse für die Bundesrepublik Deutschland und Italien lässt vermuten, dass diese Hypothese in den beiden genannten Ländern erfüllt wird.
