Book synopsis

Georg Helm (1851-1923) studierte Mathematik und Naturwissenschaften in Dresden, Leipzig und Berlin. Er arbeitete zunächst als Gymnasiallehrer und genoss nicht nur auf dem Gebiet der Physik und Mathematik einen hervorragenden Ruf, sondern auch als Didaktiker - so wurde er Hauslehrer am Königlichen Hof. Von 1888 an wirkte er als Professor für analytische Geometrie und mathematische Physik am Dresdner Polytechnikum. In seiner über 30 Jahre langen Lehrtätigkeit dort arbeitete er an mannigfaltigen Aspekten angewandter Mathematik und mathematischer Physik. Gemeinsam mit dem Nobelpreisträger Wilhelm Oswald erforschte er die Problematik der `Energetik`.
