Book synopsis
The book explores how the complexity of an environment can change in a way that means that suddenly the behavior patterns of that environment give rise to a surprise or strange behavior that has never been manifested before. The behavior of the environment becomes, or may lead to, unstable or chaotic states because the structure of that environment and the processes which flow between the elements of that structure changes dynamically in a manner that means that radical new behavior patterns appear. The effects of the dynamics of the complexity are not understood in terms of what has happened before. Through multiple levels direct and indirect interactions and contentions the dynamic complexity of the environment has taken the behavior of the environment away from the expected curve. What is known as a singularity has occurred or is about to occur. Something like a financial crisis, a world health epidemic, a sudden loss in productivity within a business appears, or a sudden unpredictable loss in information system service quantity, quality. The changing complexity and its speed to do so, and the resulting uncertainty of the global financial environment that was induced by the all-too-recent Credit Crunch is used as an example of how a singularity can suddenly occur. The book suggests that a new age of business management and control which is based upon a new type of mathematical predictive analysis and new uses of IT, is needed.
