Book synopsis
Clodomir Santos de Morais is to organizational and entrepreneurial literacy what his Brazilian confrere and one time fellow political prisoner, Paulo Freire, is to ordinary literacy. This book presents the experiences of grassroots development workers who have applied his ideas of the Organization Workshop (OW) in highly diverse social settings. The reader is introduced to de Morais's life and work and he himself contributes a chapter on his theory of organization. The chapters that follow present practical examples from Latin America, Africa and Europe, including Brazil's experience with scaling up from local OWs to national employment generation schemes. De Morais's highly distinctive grassroots development approach to empowering socially excluded strata in economic and organizational terms may become a very important factor in the struggle against poverty.
