Book synopsis
This qualitative study investigated how a team of 7hospital educators collaborated to develop e-curriculum units to pilot for a newly acquiredlearning management system at a large, multisiteacademic health sciences centre. A case studyapproach was used to examine how the e-CurriculumTeam was structured, how the educators workedtogether to develop strategies to better utilize e-learning in their own practice, what e-curriculumthey chose to develop, and how they determined theirpriorities for e-curriculum development. Projectmanagement structure, educator support, andorganizational pressures on the implementationproject feature prominently in the case study. Thisstudy suggests that implementation of e-learningwill be more successful if (a) educators involvedin the development of e-learning curriculum areinnovators and change agents, (b) the pain ofunlearning current educational practice isconsidered, (c) the limitations of the softwarebeing implemented are recognized, (d) time is spentlearning about best practice, and (e) the project isprotected as much as possible from organizationalpressures and distractions.
