Michel Leiris (París, 1901) ha sido uno de los más importantes Roger Caillais fundó el Collége de Sociologie, orientando su obra, desde entonces, al estudio de la etnología. Su obra literaria es, esencialmente, autobiográfica y ha sido comparada con la de Proust (Soy un especialista, un maniático de la confesión) por su frialdad, sutileza y ambición. Como Proust, considera la literatura un arte, pero un arte básicamente científico, basado todo en una supuesta terapia personal en la que se confiesa de manera minifiesta y absoluta, buscando su propia expiación.
