Colour photography was still a rare thing in the 1930s and 1940s. Various systems of colour photography had been tried, and the Germans had great success with the agfacolour process. This meant that colour photographs could be easily produced with basic chemicals and equipment in rudimentary darkrooms close to the action. Propaganda units were armed with Leica cameras and colour film and their images appeared in a number of official German publications including the Luftwaffe's own magazine, Der Adler, and books aimed at home front audience. Here, over 100 colour and 50 black and white images have been assembled to tell the story of the as the war unfolded.
