Book synopsis
Energy used for the generation of heat for industry and domestic purposes makes up a significant proportion of total energy consumption. In Europe this figure is estimated to be almost 50% and the majority of this heat is generated from fossil fuels. There is a pressing need to increase the uptake of renewable heating and cooling (RHC) to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. This book provides a comprehensive and authoritative overview of this area. Part 1 introduces key RHC technologies and discusses RHC in the context of global heating and cooling demand. Part 2 then contains chapters focusing on particular RHC technologies. Part 3 reviews enabling technologies, such as thermal storage and district heating. Part 4 provides international RHC case studies.
