Here is a book that introduces an innovative and practical craft art that utilises Origami techniques - specifically the hira-ori style - to create folded cloth patterns based on classic geometric designs. These patterns have been influenced by historic architecture and the traditional decorative motifs of many cultures, and have a layered complexity resulting from interaction with light. They change even further in appearance when back-lit (for example, when used as lampshades, or as screens). The approach is an easy-to-follow, step-by-step approach that is highly illustrated with sequential patterns and photos - more than 250 in total: all in colour. This is a book that will have a wide appeal to anyone who enjoys working with textiles and fabric, as well as origami: a total of 15 different projects are explained, including pillow designs, lampshades, neckties, bedspreads, tablecloths and divider screens. The book begins with an overview of Shadowfolding as a craft, and includes information on geometric tessellation, grids, pleats, twists, materials and folding techniques, then follows detailed instruction on how to form Shadowfolds and a gallery of different styles. The second half of the book contains the 15 projects, with useful appendices, including where the materials can be sourced in the world.
