Book synopsis

In my book Lucrèce et l'expérience (Éd. Seghers, 1967, reprinted by PUF in 2011), I described the Epicurean system. This work was completed in 1977 by the publication of Lettres et maximesd’Épicure (first with Éd. de Mégare and later with PUF en 1987). I felt the need to expand upon certain points on pleasure according to Epicurus and, in particular, the fundamental right to a natural death. That same year additional texts were published, one entitled “Nietzsche et Épicure” and a less historic than strictly philosophical (and personal) text, “Avec et sans Épicure,” in which I described what Epicurus’ concept of a natural society would be. The texts “Pascal et Lucrèce [Épicure]” and “Être Épicuriens aujourd’hui” completed this compendium.- M.C.
