Book synopsis
In "Deriving Satisfaction", a "bottom-up" approach is pursued in order to understand the underlying dimensions that inform individuals' satisfaction with work, leisure, family and community, as well as with life overall. Need gratification and affective experience within each of these domains are conceptualised as underlying facets of domain satisfactions, which, in turn, are seen to inform life satisfaction. Highlighted are models relating need gratification, affective experience and satisfaction with work, leisure, family and community, as well as models illustrating the contribution of satisfaction with each domain to overall life satisfaction. Also highlighted are differences between men and women in need importance, need gratification, domain centrality, and domain satisfaction, as well as gender differences in models of work, leisure, family, community, and life satisfaction.
