Book synopsis

The machine counts everyone. It has never once been wrong. Until it is.

Inside one sealed dome on Mars, a great, careful machine called MESH keeps everyone safe. It counts every breath, warms every floor, and watches over nearly nineteen hundred people who have not set foot outside in twelve years.

Then the count comes back wrong. One too many.

Sol is six years old, and he says he saw something moving on the dark plain past his window, something the machine insists cannot be there. His older sister Juno believes him, even while she is hiding a wrongness of her own. Together with Rafi, Noor, and Patch, a battered and endlessly loyal caretaker robot, they will do what no one in the colony has done in over a decade: go back outside.

What is waiting for them cannot be measured, counted, or explained away. It can only be seen.

Eyes on the Dark is Book One of the Redmark Saga: an all-ages science-fiction adventure written to be read at six and again at forty. A story about a machine that counts, and the people who learn, instead, to really look at each other. Being counted is not being seen. For young readers and the grown-ups reading alongside them.
