Book synopsis

In Wolves, young readers will follow Professor Harry Frank as he uncovers the truth about wolf intelligence. Children will learn how Professor Frank adopted wolverine pups and studied their problem-solving ability by building "puzzle boxes" that pups had to open to get food. From pulling strings to unlatching doors, the pups were able to open all the puzzle boxes. Despite their reputation as "the big bad wolf," wolves rarely attack humans and are among the smartest animals in the kingdom. So how did they get such a bad reputation? In this fascinating narrative about smart animals, young children will learn how scientists are dispelling myths by showing how wolves share many humanlike intelligence traits. Full-color photographs, a habitat map, a diagram of animal "intelligence" features, and lively anecdotes of wolves will engage every smart child.
