For most of every year, Bud Foote lives on the west end of Dauphin Island, Alabama, a few houses back from the Gulf of Mexico, enjoying the company of migratory birds and butterflies and resident mockingbirds, pigeons, pelicans, and cormorants. A bookish but sociable fellow, he has enjoyed working his perceptions of these and other facets of island life into poetry of various sorts ranging from haiku to villanelles, from somber to ridiculous, from formal to rollicking.
