Brucellosis, worldwide the most important zoonosis and remains a major health problem. This bacterial pathogen is also classified by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as a category (B) pathogen that has the potential for development as a bioweapon. After tuberculosis, brucellosis is the most important bacterial disease of livestock in Bangladesh. There are sporadic reports of prevalence of brucellosis in cattle, goats, sheep, buffalo and including human. Detailed epidemiological studies are essential to design an appropriate control strategy for the disease.
