In the year 2000, there were a relatively small §number of female presidents of institutions of §higher education within the United States. Equally §qualified men and women did not experience the same §opportunity for service as presidents of post-§secondary institutions. Problems for women included §breaking leadership traditions in a male-dominated §field and understanding perceptions predetermined by§culture and gender.
