Anotácia knihy

'There is no disputing the depth of editorial research that has been undertaken in compiling the Directory...This is a substantial work, which will be of great use to scholars of Shakespeare in performance, drama students and the reader with casual interests in theatre.' - Keith M.C. O'Sullivan, Reference Reviews. Review for A Directory of Shakespeare Volume 1: Great Britain, 1970-2005 The directory is an exceptional reference tool for all researchers interested in the performance history of Shakespeare's plays. It includes both stage and screen (film and television) productions in Canada and the USA from 1991 to 2005. Bringing into focus, by framing in time and space, North America's complex, enduring, and evolving relationship with the phenomenon we call 'Shakespeare'. Providing not only full production data -- when and where a production took place, the key production staff and the actors -- this unique reference tool also includes extracts from three key reviews for each entry, focusing on the interpretation, the design and the performance of key roles illustrating the wider theatrical and cultural significance of the productions in question. Indexes for Actors, Creative Roles, Reviewers and Companies allow for quick and easy cross-referencing, so that the reader can trace the career of a chosen director or designer, or determine which actors have played a particular role. Each volume is organised alphabetically by play and then chronologically within each play The three-volume set provides a comprehensive overview of performances of Shakespeare's plays over the last three and a half decades. Volume 1: Great Britain, 1970-2005 Volume 2: USA and Canada, 1970-1990 KATHARINE GOODLAND is Associate Professor of English at the City University of New York's College of Staten Island, USA, where she teaches courses in medieval and early modern culture and early drama, including Shakespeare. She is on the editorial board of the Shakespeare Bulletin and the Executive Board of the Columbia Shakespeare Seminar. She is the author of Female Mourning and Tragedy in Medieval and Renaissance English Drama (Ashgate, 2006). Her articles have appeared in Medieval and Renaissance Drama in England, The Journal of Literature and the Arts, and Shakespeare Bulletin. JOHN O'CONNOR is a Senior Visiting Lecturer for Cornell University. He is editor of the UK Longman School Shakespeare series and author of Shakespearean Afterlives.
