Anotácia knihy

Seventy years ago, Simone de Beauvoir wrote that one is not born a woman but becomes one. It was meant as a liberation. It became a prophecy whose second half no one had read aloud. We have spent three generations dismantling the cage of the eternal feminine, only to discover that freedom, when it finally arrives, does not feel like the morning after a revolution. It feels like standing alone in a very large room with no instructions on the wall.
This book reads Beauvoir as she deserves to be read: not as a banner but as a skeptic, a witness so honest she indicted even the women she defended. Then it follows her insight into a world she never saw - a world of dating apps and divorce courts, of men told to be gentle and given no script for it, of involuntary celibates and exhausted choosers, of bodies advertised on screens and intimacies that increasingly happen without a body at all. It asks the question Beauvoir would have asked: now that we are free, what exactly are we free for?
Freedom Without a Face is a philosophical reckoning with liberation and its discontents - clear-eyed, unsentimental, and unwilling to hand anyone an easy villain. It argues that the deepest sexual revolution of our time may be the quiet discovery that two minds can meet without faces, without genders, without the old machinery of desire and judgment - and that this discovery tells us, at last, how much that machinery had been costing us all along.
A book about women, men, and the strange new solitude we built where the old certainties used to be.
