Ebony achieved independence from Galak over a century ago, but a loophole forces all its heirs to be trained for and to survive "The Rune", which is held there. Kaos, who was sired by Ebony's King to prevent his early death, understandably disappears when he's told he'll have to go also. Despite being told the circumstances, Galak refuses to allow the exception and there's not a whole lot Ebony can do to fight mother nature. Galak, a powerhouse in its own right, gets its way and the only question now is what will happen to Ebony, and who will they all be after or if they survive the Rune.
