The text was written by the Cambridge literary critic Arthur Augustus Tilley (1851–1942) and is divided into four chapters: 'Mme de Sévigné and the news'; 'Mme de Sévigné and her friends'; 'Mme de Sévigné at Livry and Les Rochers'; 'Mme de Sévigné and her books'.
