The author, Heather Gagnon, based Trevor's character on attitudes and moods expressed by her own children and observed while raising them. She knows that the mindset message in this book is one that will resonate with preschool and young school-aged children, as well as their parents and guardians. She also hopes that readers will enjoy a few laughs along the way. Heather has read many children's stories with her family and strives to contribute positively to early literacy.

The illustrator, Sue Bates, also took a special interested in this story as she has raised children herself and is currently enjoying the delights of grand parenting.
