Doctor Faustus definitely sold his soul to the devil. Twenty years later, the devil's not sure he wants it.

After years of working for Elector Palatine Philip of Heidelberg (a little alchemy on Wednesdays, murdering wizards on a Thursday) Faust and his loyal werewolf bodyguard find themselves exiled from the city they call home. They set out across the Holy Roman Empire looking to earn enough to keep them in food and drink. Mainly drink.

Settling in Nuremberg, Faust works his way into the orbit of the Prince-Bishop, who finds a use for Faust's particular skills and sends him to capture a missing academic and the book he took with him, to bring him back alive, or at least ensure that his immortal spirit can be summoned. The journey takes Faust to the edge of his own mortality, forces a hellish confrontation with the very devil to whom he sold his soul, and shows him a glimpse of a cosmic truth that nobody should ever know.
