This descriptive case study used both quantitative andqualitative methods to identify preferred thinking styles of womenadministrators who hold leadership positions in community colleges,and to determine if their thinking styles varied acrossadministrative positions. The Inquiry Mode Questionnaire (InQ) wasused to collect survey data. Interview and observation protocolswere used to gather focus group data.The results of this studyindicate women administrators in community colleges prefer avariety of different thinking styles. Some thinking styles may bemore dominant than others. These participants had a decidedpreference for idealist and realist thinking styles. Quantitativeresults indicated a significant difference in preference for onestyle between top administrators, department chairs and programcoordinators.
