Half-timbered buildings, windmills, churches, and crude nineteen-sixties buildings seem strangely flattened and cut out, as if they have no volume. And they inhabit a space where conventional perspectives have become lost. The painted building modules-whether lined up in a shelving unit or occurring before the darkness of a inky black surface-form a kind of magical locality that can be entered with the eyes, but barely described in words.
