This book offers an insightful overview of the career of award-winning Spanish conceptual artist Carmen Calvo. Carmen Calvo - recipient of Spain's National Arts Award 2013 - is one of Spain's most important and critically acclaimed contemporary conceptual artists. She studied at the School of Arts and Crafts and subsequently the San Carlos School of Fine Arts in Valencia. Her classical training is evident even in her most avant-garde and groundbreaking compositions, which are partly rooted in popular culture, in which she condemns the violence in society and reflects on the challenges posed by globalisation. This superbly illustrated volume brings together a selection of works and provides an overview of the artist's career, including her iconic intervention in the Venice Biennale 1997.
