Though T.S Eliot distanced himself from the Romantic literary tradition, a careful reading and examining of his works can reveal, nonetheless, important connections and similarities with the Romantics. This book is a comparative study of two poems: Wordsworth's "Tintern Abbey" (1798) and Eliot's The Waste Land (1922). It pursues one main objective; which is to bring out similarities and differences in order to show that Eliot appears not to have entirely succeeded in breaking away from the Romantic tradition. Thus, seeking to prove that Eliot is influenced by the Romantic tradition, even if he denies it, I have applied Harold Bloom's theory of poetry as elaborated in his book "The Anxiety of Influence: A Theory of Poetry". It addresses the ways in which the work of major poets influences later poets and how the latter misread their precursors in order to produce their own strong poetry.
