This is a personal book, written to the readers and persons interested in child development and more so those interested in parental involvement in children's education. The author focuses on the role of fathers in children's early literacy as the first teachers of the child. The text approaches children's early literacy and learning through social development theory and Holdaway's theory of literacy development both of which argue that intellectual development must be explained as a product of social interaction between the child and the adult.
