Anotácia knihy

Natural gas currently supplies ~23% of world energy needs. Inaddition to methan, raw natural gas contains water, higherhydrocarbons, and impurities that must be removed before the gas istransported and used. Supersonic nozzle separators for natural gasare currently being developed to remove impurities and the firststep is to cool the gas to induce droplet formation and growth. Thus, understanding particle formation of the n-alkanes andn-alcohols in supersonic flows has important technologicalapplications in the petrochemical industry and provides a way toreplace chemical separation processes with one that is moreenvironmentally benign. In this work, the homogeneous nucleationrates of the n alkanes and n-alcohols have been determined bycombining information from two sets of supersonic Laval nozzleexpansion experiments under almost identical conditions. In thefirst experiments static pressure measurements were conducted todetermine the thermodynamical properties related to the nucleationevent. In the second set of experiments Small Angle X rayScattering is applied to investigate the geometric properties ofthe aerosol particles.
