Its carefully disguised characters point toward a decades-old property fraud that reshaped the town and ruined a family that never understood what had been taken from them.

With journalist Nora Fenn, Eli begins decoding the manuscript as if it were a map: every over-explained sentence, every altered name, every historical detail that looks like texture but behaves like evidence.
