This warm and inspirational photographic picture book for children of ages 4 to 8 is a compelling and uplifting true story, with a sweet message about growing up in an adopted family, which draws attention to an important and threatened wild animal. "Saving Yasha" tells the true story of Yasha, a moon bear, in Russia's Far East, growing up with his human adopted parents. One morning when Yasha was a baby, he woke up and his mother was gone - he was now an orphan. Luckily, he was found by two scientists, whose project was taking care of orphaned moon bear cubs. While Yasha is tine, his new parents feed him milk from a bottle. As he grows older, he learns to forage for herbs, leaves and berries, climb trees, play with other cubs, and escape from danger. By his second autumn, Yasha is big and strong, and has learned everything he needs to know. Soon he will find a den in a hollow tree to use for his long winter's nap. And in the spring, he'll be ready to live life on his own.
