The texts in this series for beginning readers have a strong phonics base and can be used at any age, from kindergarten to adult learners. Each book includes: simple words that "work" by being sounded out; games and other activities; key words needed for literacy; methods for teaching reading; teachers' notes on how each page can best be used; and help when needed when learning to read. In Book 3, activity sheets for beginning readers should help them learn and use: the blended sounds of consonants with short vowels; the new sounds of 'th', 'ch', 'sh' and 'wh' with short vowels; the adding of the silent 'e' to make long vowel sounds; the vowel pairs 'ai', 'oa', 'ee' and 'ea'; the letter 'u' as a 'part-time' vowel; the rules of adding '-ing' and '-er' to words; and sound-alike words in the writing of sentences. It also includes an assessment test which, while remaining the copyright of June Mitchelmore, may be copied for use in your home or school.
