This biography of W.E.B. Du Bois (1868-1963) will provide readers a detailed account of Du Bois's life while using the life to interpret political developments of the 20th Specifically, the book will examine Du Bois's relationship to Socialist and Communist movements challenging capitalist modernity; his role in anti-imperialist, anti-colonial struggles across the Asian and African worlds; and his place in what historians have called the "long civil rights movement" in the U.S. extending roughly from 1910, the year he co-founded the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) to 1963, the year of his death.
