Das Motto Fundamentals / Absorbing Modernity 1914 2014 des künstlerischen Leiters der diesjährigen Biennale, Rem Koolhaas, nehmen die beiden Generalkommissare des deutschen Pavillons auf, um die spekulative Realität der Architektur zwischen nationaler Identität und gebauter Repräsentation innerhalb der letzten 100 Jahre sichtbar zu machen. Ihre architektonische Installation verwandelt Geschichtsbetrachtung in ein Experiment, das Präsenz durch die Überschneidung von Materialität, Raum und Bedeutung manifestiert.§Ausstellung/Exhibition: Architecture Biennale, Venice 7.6.- 23.11.2014The Zurich-based partners Alex Lehnerer and Savvas Ciriacidis consider their work a cultural practice that always stands in a (self) critical relationship to the present. In Chicago, for instance, the architects wanted to fill a hole left over from an unfinished skyscraper with a gigantic hot air balloon, which would rise up into the air, a persiflage of the construction project that failed after the real estate and financial bubble burst in 2010. The two commissioned officers of the German pavilion pick up on Artistic Director Rem Koolhaas s theme Absorbing Modernity 1914 2014, in order to visualize the speculative reality of architecture between national identity and constructed representation over the past hundred years.
